Locked on Lockdown On Tuesday, 24 March 2020, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared on national television that India would be under lockdown for twenty-one days in order to prevent the spread of the global pandemic COVID-19 (Coronavirus). The decision of the Prime Minister was made two days after he had advised the citizens of India to follow the Janata Curfew, which was a voluntary curfew. The Janata Curfew acted to prepare Indian citizens for the current lockdown. The Ministry of Home Affairs published the official notification and invoked the lockdown under Section 6 of the Disaster Management Act.
